College entrance review

UPCAT review, planned backwards from the exam date

UPCAT review at Eduline is one tutor with one learner, working through the four subtests and the pacing most reviewers skip. UP held the AY 2027-2028 exam on 1 and 2 August 2026, with applications closing months earlier, so every plan is counted backwards from the dates in UP's bulletin.

What is

UPCAT

The UPCAT is the University of the Philippines College Admission Test, the single entrance exam for every UP campus. UP held it on 1 and 2 August 2026 for AY 2027-2028 entry, with applications closing months earlier, and it is marked alongside your high school grades. For AY 2026-2027, 147,437 took it and 18,350 qualified: 12.44%.

Key Points

  1. Four subtests: Language Proficiency, Reading Comprehension, Science and Mathematics
  2. Dated in UP's bulletin each cycle; the application window closes months before the test, so the calendar decides when review has to start
  3. High school grades are weighed alongside the test result in UP's decision
  4. Roughly one in eight examinees qualified for AY 2026-2027; the review works every subtest toward that one in eight
  5. One hourly rate covers every subtest and every grade level; only the format and the area change what it costs
Learning Formats

How the sessions run

Same tutor and same plan in every format: pick the one that fits your week

  1. At your home

The tutor comes to you. Useful in the months before the exam, when a learner is still carrying a full school load and travel time is the first thing to go.

    90 minutes
    • No commute on a school night
    • Written work marked while you watch
    • Sessions scheduled around school and the rest of your week
  2. Online

The same tutor over video. This is the practical choice outside the tutor's travel radius, and through the rainy season when weather can cancel a home visit.

    90 minutes
    • Works on a phone if that is the device you have
    • Past papers shared on screen and worked through together
    • Easier to add a short extra session in the last weeks
  3. The final stretch

A tighter schedule for the weeks just before the exam: more timed papers, shorter gaps between sessions, and review driven by what the last paper showed.

    90-120 minutes
    • Full papers under exam timing, reviewed afterwards
    • The weakest subtest gets the extra hours
    • A week-by-week plan for the time that remains

Learning Roadmap

When to start

The plan starts from where you are now and counts down to exam day

  1. Grade 11

    More than a year out

The comfortable start. At this distance review is mostly repair work (closing the gaps in Math and Science that would otherwise cost points under time pressure), and it can run at one session a week without crowding schoolwork.

    Subjects

    MathematicsScienceReading ComprehensionLanguage Proficiency

    Focus Areas

    • Fix the foundations while there is time to fix them
    • Build reading speed before it has to be forced
    • Keep the Senior High workload intact
  2. Grade 12, first semester

    The usual starting point

Most UPCAT takers start here. There is enough runway to cover all four subtests properly and still leave room for timed practice, provided the schedule holds through the busiest part of the school year.

    Subjects

    MathematicsScienceReading ComprehensionLanguage Proficiency

    Focus Areas

    • All four subtests covered in order of weakness
    • Timed papers introduced once content is steady
    • Application deadlines tracked alongside the review plan
  3. The last eight weeks

    Close to the date

Eight weeks out, the goal sharpens. At this range the work is pacing, question triage and the one or two topics that are costing the most points, and every session builds on material the learner already knows.

    Subjects

    Timed practiceQuestion triageThe weakest subtest

    Focus Areas

    • Finish the paper: pacing before content
    • Learn which questions to leave
    • A plan sized to the weeks left before exam day
Learning Phases

What the review covers

The four subtests, plus the part that decides whether you finish the paper

Order and weighting are set per learner after the first timed paper: an even split across four subtests spends hours on the subtest you least need.

  1. Mathematics

    4 topics

The subtest that most often separates a good score from a qualifying one, because it punishes slow arithmetic as much as weak concepts.

    • Algebra and functions
    • Geometry and measurement
    • Data, probability and reading a chart under time
    • Mental shortcuts that save seconds per item
  2. Science

    4 topics

Biology, Chemistry and Physics at the level a Senior High learner has actually been taught, including the parts the Strengthened SHS core covers and the parts it does not.

    • Biology: systems, genetics, ecology
    • Chemistry: matter, reactions, stoichiometry
    • Physics: motion, energy, electricity
    • Reading an experiment description and finding the question inside it
  3. Reading Comprehension

    4 topics

Long passages read once, under time. Most of the points lost here are lost to pace and to re-reading.

    • Finding the claim inside the passage
    • Inference against what is merely stated
    • Reading for the question first
    • Building speed without losing accuracy
  4. Language Proficiency

    4 topics

English usage, grammar and precision: the subtest learners most often assume is safe, and where careless points are cheapest to recover.

    • Sentence structure and agreement
    • Word choice and register
    • Correcting without rewriting
    • Common traps in multiple-choice usage items
  5. Pacing and question triage

    4 topics

A skill of its own, and the reason many prepared learners still run out of paper. Practiced under real timing until it stops being a decision.

    • Deciding in seconds whether to answer, skip or guess
    • Budgeting time per section and holding to it
    • Recovering after a bad opening section
    • Full papers under exam conditions, reviewed afterwards

Online Tutoring

Worldwide

The same tutor runs the session over video, working through past UPCAT papers on a shared screen as a home visit does. It keeps review going for learners outside a tutor's travel range, and keeps the UPCAT countdown intact through a typhoon week that would otherwise cancel a visit.

  • Holds up on a phone screen when that is the device on hand
  • Past papers shared on screen and worked through live
  • Easier to add a short session in the final weeks

In-Person Tutoring

At home, with past papers on the table

A home tutor sits beside you through full UPCAT past papers, clock running, marking each subtest as it ends. Say where you go to school, and the reply names the UPCAT tutor who covers your area.

    Who This Program Serves

    Who this is for

Four starting points, each with its own plan

The main case. School review, if the school runs one, is built for a batch; this is built for the subtests you are actually losing points in.

All four subtestsTimed papers from the halfway point90-minute sessions

What an hour of UPCAT review costs

One tutor working through the four subtests with you alone, whether that happens at a home in Metro Manila, at a home in a provincial area, or over video call.

    From

    ₱600 / hour

Home visit, Metro Manila₱800 / hour
    Online₱600 / hour
Home visit, provincial areas₱600 / hour

Per hour, one tutor with one learner. Home visits run at least 1.5 hours. Packages: 12 hours at 5% off, 24 hours at 10% off. A 20-hour entrance exam plan is available.

A Grade 11 learner closing one or two gaps typically holds to a single session a week; a Grade 12 learner covering all four subtests before exam day often adds a second. The per-hour rate stays the same either way, and the total moves with the hours and with whichever package fits your calendar.

    FAQ

    What UPCAT takers ask

Asked by learners, and by whoever is signing them up, before anything is booked

Can you guarantee I pass the UPCAT?

For AY 2026-2027, 147,437 sat the UPCAT and 18,350 qualified, about one in eight, and UP makes that call itself. What we promise is the preparation that aims you at that list: the subtest you are weakest in gets covered first, full papers run under real UPCAT timing, and the same tutor sits with you in every session from the first to the last, with a free replacement the day you ask for one.
