Senior High Entrance Exam Review: revising one curriculum to enter another

Senior High entrance exam review at Eduline pairs a Grade 10 learner with one tutor, revising the MELC content of this school year while preparing for a Grade 11 that changed shape in June 2026, with Academic and TechPro tracks and elective clusters standing where STEM, ABM, HUMSS and GAS used to be.

Quick Guide

What is Senior High entrance review?

One-on-one preparation built around a single fact: no shared syllabus governs this test, each school writes its own.

Before a plan takes shape, someone here reads whatever your shortlisted schools have published about that paper: its coverage, its length, its format. The sessions follow what that reading turns up.

Key Points

  • For Grade 10 learners applying into Grade 11
  • MELC still governs Grade 10 through SY 2027-2028, and that curriculum is what gets revised
  • Grade 11 now runs the Strengthened SHS: two tracks, elective clusters, and no strands
  • Every school writes its own admission test, so the plan follows whatever your shortlisted schools have published about theirs
  • Priced at the Junior High rate, with the exact figure confirmed before anything is booked
How You Learn

Two ways to run the review

Same tutor and same plan; pick whichever survives your Grade 10 schedule

per session

Duration: 90-120 minutes

At your home

A mock built to the length and question types your shortlisted school announced, taken at a table with a clock running as the real exam would run it. Sitting through it lets the tutor see exactly where minutes disappear, often the real reason a strong learner still misses the cut.

  • Practice papers done under timed conditions
  • Working reviewed straight afterwards
  • No travel in an already full Grade 10 week

per session

Duration: 60-90 minutes

Online

A video call with a shared screen. Useful when a shortlisted school sits outside commuting distance, and sessions can be added in the final weeks before a test date without rearranging travel.

  • Shared workspace for showing working
  • Simple to add sessions as a date approaches
  • Reaches learners outside a tutor's radius
Program Strengths

How we run entrance review

Built on each school's own announcement

  • Built from your schools' announcements

No two schools write the same entrance paper, so there is no single course sitting on a shelf that fits this. What your shortlist has published becomes the syllabus, question types and pacing this review actually follows, built around the schools you are aiming for.

  • Revising the curriculum Grade 10 is actually on

MELC is the curriculum under Grade 10 right now, and it stays that way through SY 2027-2028. A tutor pulling from MATATAG instead would drill competencies Grade 10 has not reached yet.

  • Straight answers about the Senior High that changed

STEM, ABM, HUMSS and GAS stopped existing when the elective-cluster system under two tracks took effect in June 2026. A tutor here explains that change accurately and stops there; choosing what to study inside it is your call, made with your Grade 10 counselor.

  • Pacing treated as a subject

More points are lost to running out of time than to not knowing. Timed full papers from early on, because the first complete paper a learner takes should never be the real one.

  • Preparation, committed in full

Admission itself is the school's call, decided by criteria, capacity and an applicant pool that changes every year. What gets committed here is the preparation itself, plus free tutor replacement the moment you ask.

  • A fixed end date

Review ends when the last test is done. The last session lands on the week of the last paper, and the plan closes there.

The work is different at each of these, and so is how much of it there is

Early Grade 10, no shortlist yet

Build the base, decide later

Nothing is known about the papers yet, so the review is simply strengthening the subjects every entrance test draws on. This is the cheapest and calmest time to do it, and a learner who starts here walks into the application season a step ahead.

Focus Areas

  • Close the gaps while there is time to do it slowly
  • An ordinary, calm weekly rhythm
  • Shortlist can be built later without penalty

Shortlist made, dates known

The usual starting point

Once the shortlist has names and dates attached, the review narrows from general subject strengthening into something built for a specific paper. Whatever each school has published about its test carries the plan from here, weighted most heavily toward the school the learner would say yes to first.

Focus Areas

The last few weeks

Sharpening what is already known

With an entrance date only weeks off, sessions tighten what already exists: pacing, catching careless slips, keeping accuracy steady under pressure. A request for one more new topic this close to a school's test date gets turned down, since confidence lost this late rarely returns before exam day.

Tracks and clusters, the words that replaced strands

Running alongside all of this is a decision that changed. The pick itself belongs to the learner and the guidance office, and the tutor makes sure it is made on an accurate picture: what the two tracks are, and why the strand names still passed around in class and at home no longer exist.

What the review covers

Weight follows whatever your shortlisted schools have published about their own test

Each Senior High school's own material anchors this review: its admission notice, the sample reviewer it hands applicants, and last year's published coverage where that exists. Share what the school has sent you, and the sessions are built from those pages.

What Grade 10 entrance review costs

Priced at the Junior High level, since Grade 10 is the grade you are actually in while sitting this test, a lower level than the college entrance-exam rate charged once a student is finishing Senior High. The figure changes with where a session happens: at your home, online, or in a provincial area.

From

₱450 / hour

Home visit, Metro Manila₱600 / hour
Online₱450 / hour
Home visit, provincial areas₱450 / hour

Per hour, one tutor with one learner. Home visits run at least 1.5 hours. Packages: 12 hours at 5% off, 24 hours at 10% off. A 20-hour entrance exam plan is available.

The number of hours in a plan follows the timeline. A learner starting in early Grade 10 usually settles into a steady weekly hour and can reach a discounted 12- or 24-hour package. An applicant down to the last few weeks before a test date needs a short, intensive block that a package length rarely fits. Whichever shape the plan takes, its rate and hours are written down for you before the first session is fixed.

Common Questions

Questions Grade 10 applicants ask

Answered before anything is arranged

Can you guarantee I get in?

A school decides admission against its own criteria, the seats it has that year and how many other applicants are competing for them. What this service delivers is complete preparation for the paper itself, so you sit it at full strength and the school sees your best work. Switching tutors partway through the shortlist is free, too.

What is actually on the entrance test?

That depends entirely on which school you are sitting for, which is exactly why the announcement gets asked for before a plan gets built. Every school writes its own paper, and coverage, length and format all differ from one to the next. Building from the announcement means every hour prepares for the test you will actually take.

I am in Grade 10. Which curriculum should I review?

MELC. MATATAG is phasing in by grade band and Grade 10 does not move onto it until SY 2027-2028, so this year's Grade 10 is on the older curriculum even though Grade 9 is not. It is an easy thing to get wrong, and a reviewer working from the wrong one will drill competencies the learner's own year never covered.

I was told to pick a strand. Which one should I choose?

The strand question does not have an answer anymore, because DepEd removed strands from the structure entirely. Grade 11 now organizes itself around two tracks, Academic and Technical-Professional, with students building their own elective clusters underneath whichever track they choose. That change came into force in June 2026, replacing STEM, ABM, HUMSS and GAS. If an adviser is still naming one of those four strands, they have not caught up. Which electives to build inside a track is a call for you and the school's guidance counselor.

When should I start?

Earlier is cheaper and calmer, and the shortlist sets the exact start. For competitive schools, starting in early Grade 10 lets gaps close steadily with time to spare. With the earliest date weeks away, the work concentrates on timing and accuracy in a focused block. Tell us the dates and the reply sets out the length, the rhythm and the rate that fit them.

Is entrance review necessary if I stay at my current school?

It depends on the school's own rule for moving up. Many schools move their Grade 10 students into Senior High on the strength of the school record, and for those learners the useful work is Grade 11 readiness: the elective subjects they are heading into and the study habits Senior High asks for, which our Senior High tutoring covers. Where the school sets its own qualifying test or elective cut-off, entrance review prepares for that paper. Share the school's policy and your latest report card, and we map the plan that fits.

How much does it cost?

The rate shown above is priced at the Junior High level, since you sit this test while still in Grade 10, home visit, online, and provincial rates all included. What still depends on your own plan is how many hours it takes: a Grade 10 learner starting early usually settles into a steady weekly hour and can reach a discounted 12- or 24-hour package, and a shortlist with only weeks left usually needs a short, intensive block that a package length rarely fits. Share your shortlist and dates, and the plan comes back sized to your timeline, its rate sent to you in writing ahead of any booking.

Next step

Send us the shortlist and the dates

  • Planned from the schools' own announcements
  • Revised against MELC, which Grade 10 is on
  • Timed practice from the start
  • Junior High rate shown, confirmed in writing before you book

Three things matter here: the schools you are applying to, whatever those schools have announced about their entrance test, and when the earliest one falls. Once those are in hand, a plan for a Grade 10 applicant takes shape, together with the subjects it weights first, the hourly rate, and the tutor who would carry it out.
