Science Tutor Jobs Philippines: Spiral Science to PSHS Prep

Science tutor jobs in the Philippines, part-time with Eduline, take you to a learner's home near you or online, and applying is free. Under MATATAG, Science becomes its own subject in Grade 3, then returns to the same four domains each year, so learners call a tutor as every loop gets harder.

Teaching one spiral of science at a time

MATATAG science circles back every school year. From Grade 3 to Grade 6 the domains are Materials, Living Things, Force, Motion and Energy, and Earth and Space. From Grade 7 they widen into Science of Materials, Life Science, Force, Motion and Energy, and Earth and Space Science, with each domain landing in a different term as the grades go up. A typical session opens with the idea a learner met a year earlier, then builds the new layer on top of it, so the term's lesson reads as the next chapter of last year's.

Many learners study science with little lab work at school. A 2024 research review cites 4,520 of 12,390 high schools running without a laboratory. A good session fills that gap with what a kitchen holds: red cabbage water as an acid and base indicator that turns red in vinegar and blue in baking soda, a ruler and a marble for motion. You set the safety rule first, and cleaning products such as bleach or ammonia stay out of every experiment.

Circuits, gas pressure and waves, the parts a kitchen cannot hold, are drawn and labelled together by hand; virtual lab work on PhET simulations belongs to the Online Science Tutor role, which runs entirely on a video call. In Grades 7 to 10 the curriculum asks learners to design an investigation on a real problem and judge whether the evidence supports the conclusion, so you coach the reasoning along with the answer.

This school year one house can hold two science curricula: a Grade 9 learner studies MATATAG science, and a Grade 10 sibling still follows the MELC-based guide, which that grade leaves only in SY 2027-2028. The learner's notebook and latest marked quiz show which order of topics the class follows.

Senior high adds General Science, a Strengthened SHS core subject that every public senior high school now teaches to its incoming Grade 11 class, across the whole school year. The old strands (STEM, ABM, HUMSS, GAS) have given way to two tracks, Academic and TechPro, and STEM now names an elective cluster inside the Academic track. Every Grade 11 student on the strengthened curriculum takes General Science, whatever track they chose, so requests come from future engineers and future chefs alike.

Admission season shapes the calendar. Grade 6 learners prepare for the Philippine Science High School National Competitive Examination, set for Saturday, 30 January 2027, and in Metro Manila for the Unified Science High School Admissions Test that DepEd NCR first held on 7 March 2026. Nursing graduates bring the integrated sciences of the licensure exam.

Public schools now run three terms, from 8 June 2026 to 8 April 2027, and science requests rise ahead of each term-end assessment: mid-September, the weeks before the December break, and early April.

Safety comes before every experiment. Younger siblings are often nearby, so materials stay closed and out of small hands until the activity starts, anything warm is handled by an adult in the household, and the table is wiped and every cup rinsed before you leave.

MATATAG science domains and one kitchen-table activity each

Science starts as its own subject in Grade 3 under MATATAG, and the same four domains return every year after. Each has an activity a home table holds safely, and a line the session never crosses.

  • Materials, then Science of Materials

Red cabbage water turns red in vinegar and blue in baking soda, a clean way into acids and bases. Bleach, ammonia and every other cleaning product stay off the table.

  • Living Things, then Life Science

Draw a plant cell or the digestive system from the learner's notebook and label every part together by hand. Dissection and microscope work stay with the school laboratory.

  • Force, Motion and Energy

A ruler propped on two books becomes a ramp; a marble, a phone stopwatch and a notebook table turn it into speed data. Wall sockets and loose batteries stay out; circuits are drawn.

  • Earth and Space, then Earth and Space Science

Water poured through soil and pebbles in a cut plastic bottle with a funnel shows how ground layers hold and pass water. Open flame and looking at the sun stay off the list.

Levels and exams a science tutor covers

Choose the levels you teach with confidence. A person on the team reads your choices and matches requests to them.

  • Grades 3 to 6 science

First years of Science as a separate subject: materials, living things, simple forces and the sky, taught with hands-on objects and plenty of questions.

  • Grades 7 to 10 spiral science

Chemistry, biology, physics and earth science revisited every year at a higher level, with investigations and evidence-based conclusions.

  • Senior high General Science

The Strengthened SHS core subject every Grade 11 student on the new curriculum takes across the school year, on both the Academic and TechPro tracks.

  • PSHS NCE and USHAT preparation

Grade 6 learners aiming for Philippine Science High School or a Metro Manila regional or legislated science high school.

  • UPCAT Science subtest review

Senior high students preparing the Science part of the UP College Admission Test; review of the whole UPCAT sits with the Entrance Exam Review tutor role.

  • Nursing licensure science foundations

Adult reviewees strengthening Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Nutrition for the integrated items of the PNLE.

What a science tutor brings

  • Working command of the MATATAG domains, from Science of Materials and Life Science to Force, Motion and Energy, at the levels you choose
  • Ability to explain the four MATATAG science domains and connect this year's topic to last year's
  • Comfort running a safe household experiment, and a steady hand at drawing labelled diagrams on paper
  • A government ID still in force, plus your diploma or TOR
  • PRC licensure, a plus and optional
  • NBI clearance before the first science placement, required of every tutor
  • Readiness to teach minors at home with an adult present in the household

How science placements are paid

Each science offer begins with its hourly rate. Subject, grade level and setting decide it, so Grade 4 science at a learner's home and UPCAT science review online can pay differently.

As you apply, ask for current science rates at your planned levels. You also state your free weekly hours, and offers come only within them.

You can ask for a re-match whenever you want one, and a learner can have their science tutor replaced free on any request, so every pairing can be reset at no cost to either side.

From application to first science learner

  1. 1

    Name your sciences and hours

Say who you are, which sciences and exams you take on, the grades you prefer, and the open hours in your week.

  2. 2

Send ID, diploma and NBI clearance

Send a valid government ID, your diploma or transcript, a PRC license if you have one, and your NBI clearance before the first placement.

  3. 3

    Walk us through one topic

A short online or phone conversation about the science domains and exams you teach best, from Grade 3 materials to PNLE pharmacology.

  4. 4

Say yes to a science offer

You receive an offer showing the science level, schedule, subject and hourly rate, and you choose whether to take it on.

Science tutor applicant questions

Can I teach science well at a learner's home without lab equipment?

Yes. A home table holds no circuit board, gas cylinder or wave tank, so those topics live on paper. A circuit becomes a pencil loop with a cell, a switch and two bulbs, redrawn in series and then in parallel while the learner traces the current with a fingertip. A gas law becomes a small pressure and volume table the learner plots by hand. A wave is sketched with crest, trough and wavelength labelled, then redrawn at double the frequency.

Which science levels do learners ask for this school year?

Requests run from Grade 3, where Science starts as its own subject, through the Grades 7 to 10 spiral. Grades 6 and 9 switch to MATATAG science this school year, while Grade 10 keeps its pre-MATATAG science program for one more year and moves over in SY 2027-2028. Senior high students ask for General Science, the Strengthened SHS core subject now taught in every public Grade 11 class.

When do Grade 6 learners prepare for science high school exams?

Pisay takes applications for its SY 2027-2028 entrance exam until 7 November 2026 and holds the exam on Saturday, 30 January 2027. In Metro Manila, DepEd NCR held the first Unified Science High School Admissions Test on 7 March 2026, so review often runs from October into March.

Do adult learners hire science tutors?

Yes. Nursing graduates reviewing for the Philippine Nurse Licensure Exam ask for help with Anatomy and Physiology, Pathophysiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Nutrition. The exam needs a 75 percent average with no subject under 60 percent, so steady science foundations matter to them.

Do I teach science in English or in Filipino?

Science is taught and tested in English from Grade 4, so words such as photosynthesis, ecosystem and friction arrive in English. Republic Act 12027 makes Filipino and English the media of instruction from Kindergarten to Grade 3. Explain in whichever language makes the idea land, then have the learner write the answer in English.

What if a learner is afraid of the math inside physics?

Start with the picture before the formula. Sketch the situation, name each quantity with its unit, and solve one worked example side by side before the learner tries the next alone. When a learner explains motion well in words and freezes at the rearranged equation, drill that algebra step on its own for a few minutes each session.

Investigatory projects bring many requests. How much do I help?

Read the teacher's guidelines together, then set one target per session up to the due date: a question the house can test, the setup, the trials, the write-up. Review each draft and ask what a panel would ask. The trials, the report and the presentation stay the learner's.

How do I support a Grade 6 learner reviewing for Pisay while keeping up with school?

Protect the school grades first: last cycle's NCE eligibility asked for 85 percent or better in Science and Mathematics, or the upper 10 percent of the batch. The exam tests mathematics, science, verbal ability and abstract reasoning, so split each session between the current lesson and timed review.
