TOEFL Review Philippines for students tested on studying
TOEFL review in the Philippines for the student bound for a university abroad, who is tested on studying as much as on English. The tasks mirror campus work: read something dense, listen to a lecture, then write or speak about both at once. One tutor drills those combined tasks on a timer, starting from a full practice attempt.

What is
TOEFL preparation
One-to-one preparation for the Test of English as a Foreign Language, taken mostly by people heading into study or into professions abroad. Work is on academic English and on the specific demand of handling more than one source at once, which is what separates this test from ordinary English ability.
Key Points
01Mostly for study abroad, and often for a younger candidate than IELTS or OET
02Academic register: lectures, textbooks and campus material, the language of a university week
03Tasks combine skills, so practicing reading, listening, writing and speaking separately is not enough
04The structure and scoring behind TOEFL come from its own official materials, updated on their own schedule
05Billed at the published hourly rate for languages, with the practice attempt setting how many hours
Format Options
Two ways to run it
TOEFL runs on a keyboard, a screen and a microphone, and online sessions copy that setup directly
01
Duration: 60-90 minutes
Online
The exam itself is typed on a keyboard, read from a screen, and answered into a microphone that records everything you say. A session built the same way trains those exact mechanics, and hearing your own recorded hesitation played back is a correction most candidates would otherwise meet for the first time on exam day.
Same setting as the real sitting
Speaking recorded and reviewed
Writing drafted and marked live
02
Duration: 90-120 minutes
At your home
Good for a candidate who thinks more clearly without a screen in front of them, and for marking up a reading passage or a draft essay by hand before it gets typed clean.
Written work gone through on paper
Fewer distractions than a browser
A fixed weekly anchor
Reasons to Choose Us
How we prepare people for this
Starting with a practice attempt, then a plan built from its results
01
One full practice attempt before anything is planned
It shows which of the four sections is short and whether your target date is realistic. Weighed against paying for an actual sitting twice, that first hour is the better trade.
02
The combined tasks are rehearsed specifically
Reading, listening, writing and speaking practiced separately does not prepare a candidate for handling two sources at once, which is the demand that separates this test from general English.
03
Online is treated as closer to the real thing
The real test is answered on a keyboard and into a microphone. Whoever has only handwritten essays meets that mechanic first on exam day. Practicing the same way removes the surprise.
04
We build from TOEFL's current official materials
A course written a few years ago may describe a task TOEFL has since retired, and confident prep for that old version still costs a sitting.
05
The sitting date set by the score gap
A practice attempt shows how far the score sits from the requirement, and the sitting date follows that gap, so the candidate walks into the test center on the date the preparation is ready for.
06
Preparation you can count on
The score belongs to how TOEFL grades it and to the institution reading the result. What we deliver is careful preparation, and a free tutor swap on your request, at any point in the plan.

Description
Studied in English, reads comfortably, and meets academic English under time pressure for the first time on this test. The sessions teach what each task demands and drill the reading, listening and speaking combinations on a timer.
Almost always Speaking or Writing, and almost always because of what the tasks ask: the English itself is usually ready. A well-diagnosed, narrow problem that does not need the whole test taught again.
Conversational English is comfortable, and academic English asks for more: dense text, unfamiliar subject matter, lectures delivered at speed. This is a longer plan than a test-technique course, and it is set out month by month from the first week.
Where the sitting is weeks away, the work narrows to format, timing and a practice attempt under real conditions, the three levers that move a score fastest. A candidate whose academic English sits well short of the requirement gets a second plan alongside, pointed at a later sitting.

What sessions work on
Concentrated on the section that is short, after one full practice attempt
TOEFL's own materials cover its task structure, timings and scoring, and they get revised on a schedule this page does not set. A course still built around last year's task list is how a candidate prepares confidently for a test that has already changed.
01
Module 01
Doing two things at once
The demand that separates this test from general English. Read something, hear something about it, then produce an answer drawing on both, which nobody practises by accident.
Holding a source while taking in another
Noting only what matters
Building an answer from two inputs
Managing the time this takes
02
Module 02
Note-taking while listening
A learned skill and a rare one. Candidates either write too much and stop listening, or listen well and retain nothing usable when the task arrives.
What to write and what to leave
Abbreviating without losing meaning
Notes as structure: arrows, keywords, short lines
Recovering after a missed passage
03
Module 03
Academic reading at speed
Dense text on subjects the candidate may know nothing about, under a clock. The subject matter is deliberately unfamiliar, which is why reading strategy matters more than background knowledge.
Reading for structure first
Unfamiliar subject matter without panic
Inference and author's purpose
Not re-reading out of anxiety
04
Module 04
Speaking to a machine
This task means answering into a live microphone with nobody reacting on the other end. Easy conversationalists often run dry in that particular silence, and repetition is most of the cure.
Speaking with no feedback coming back
Organizing an answer in seconds
Filling time without padding
Hearing your own hesitation, recorded
05
Module 05
Academic writing
Structure that a reader can follow, a position that is supported, and enough discipline to plan before writing. Most lost points here are structural.
Planning before the first sentence
A position, supported
Using the sources given
Finishing inside the time
06
Module 06
Academic vocabulary
The words that appear across university subjects. Built through reading, because a list produces recognition and the test wants use.
Words that cross subjects
Meaning from context
Putting words to use in speech and writing
Reading widely and deliberately

Online Tutoring
Open to any learner in the Philippines whose internet can carry a live session without dropping out
Listening and speaking both run through headphones and a microphone on a computer, with scratch paper allowed throughout for notes. A screen, headphones, and a notepad beside the keyboard is close to the real setup.
Same setting as the real sitting
Speaking recorded and reviewed
Writing drafted and marked live

In-Person Tutoring
At home, for reading and drafting on paper
In-home sessions give a candidate a quiet table for the long reading passages and a tutor marking drafts beside them. Say which city or area you are in, and Eduline matches the TOEFL tutor who works there.
Who It Is For
Who this is for
Six situations, and the right first step for each
01
A student applying to study abroad
The largest group. Usually younger than IELTS or OET candidates, usually working to an application deadline, and usually stronger in reading than in the productive sections.
Recommended:
A full practice attempt firstSpeaking and Writing weightedPlanned backwards from the application date
02
A professional whose field requires it
Some professions and destinations name this test specifically. The preparation is the same; the timeline is usually tighter and the candidate usually has less recent experience of academic material.
Recommended:
Academic register rebuilt deliberatelyFormat before languageFixed end date at the sitting
03
A college applicant whose booking someone else is arranging
Common enough to name: a parent, an older sibling or a sponsor makes the first inquiry. The candidate is an adult with their own deadline and their own reasons, so the plan is agreed with the candidate, who sets the pace and owns the homework.
Recommended:
We talk to the candidate directlyTheir deadline, their decisionsThe invoice can still go to whoever pays
04
Someone who fell short on one section
Narrow and well-defined. Read the score report closely first, then spend everything on that section and nothing on the ones that passed.
Recommended:
One section onlyTask-by-task rehearsalA short, finite block
05
Someone who has not checked which test is accepted
Not every university or agency accepts the same test, and finding that out after preparing is an expensive way to learn it. What the institution puts in writing settles the question, and Eduline builds the plan around that document the day the candidate has it.
Recommended:
Ask the institution directlyWritten confirmation from the receiving institutionPreparation only after that is settled
06
Someone whose academic English is well short
Where the requirement sits well above the current level, the gap closes through academic English itself: reading, lectures and writing built up over months, with test technique layered on once the language carries it.
Recommended:
General academic English firstA written timeline at the startA sitting date chosen for readiness
What goes wrong
Seven ways good English still scores badly here
Each of these is a candidate preparing hard for something the test is not asking
1
Studying vocabulary lists
Why it happens
It is measurable, it feels like progress, and it produces recognition. Use is a different skill. The tasks want you to do something with the language, and a memorized list does not help you combine a reading with a lecture.
How we fix it
Read widely in academic material and take vocabulary from what you meet. Words learned in context are the ones that turn up in your own writing.
2
Practicing the four skills separately
Why it happens
Reading practice, then listening practice, then writing practice: none of which rehearses the actual demand, which is holding one source while processing another and producing an answer from both.
How we fix it
Practice the combined tasks specifically, from the beginning. They are the part nobody is accidentally good at.
3
Writing notes that are too complete
Why it happens
A candidate anxious about missing something writes continuously and stops listening, then finds the notes are a transcript with no structure and cannot be used under time pressure.
How we fix it
Practice note-taking as a separate skill with deliberately sparse output. Less writing, more listening, and notes kept as structure.
4
Never rehearsing speaking into a headset
Why it happens
A recording microphone offers no face, no nod, no cue that an answer landed, and even fluid talkers go blank, speed up, or trail off in that blankness.
How we fix it
Time a practice answer, record it, and listen back the same day. Uncomfortable, and nothing closes the gap faster.
5
Booking the sitting before knowing where you stand
Why it happens
A date chosen by hope, with no practice attempt behind it, frequently means paying twice: once for a sitting that was never going to reach the number, and again for the real one.
How we fix it
Sit the timed practice attempt with a tutor first, before registering for an actual date. It costs a fraction of what registering twice would.
6
Preparing from a course written years ago
Why it happens
Formats and requirements change. Material that was accurate once can be confidently wrong now, and a candidate who practiced carefully for the previous version has lost a sitting to it.
How we fix it
Work from what the test owner currently publishes, and confirm the requirement with the institution in writing. We build plans from those two sources.
7
Assuming Philippine schooling is enough on its own
Why it happens
Years of English-medium instruction genuinely help, and they build a candidate's confidence past what the productive sections will support. Reading and listening come easily; speaking into a headset under time and writing to a structure are not things school ever asked for.
How we fix it
Test the assumption with a full practice attempt before you book. The result usually reassures on two sections and surprises on the other two.
The thread running through them: this test assesses handling academic material under time pressure. Knowing English is necessary and is not what is being measured.
What TOEFL preparation costs per hour
TOEFL belongs to the languages band of Eduline's rate card, so each candidate pays the hourly figure shown here
From
₱500 / hour
Home visit, Metro Manila
₱700 / hour
Online
₱500 / hour
Home visit, provincial areas
₱500 / hour
Per hour, one tutor with one learner. Home visits run at least 1.5 hours. Packages: 12 hours at 5% off, 24 hours at 10% off.
The hours are the part that varies. A student who needs the combined tasks rehearsed before an application closes in six weeks books a short block; a candidate rebuilding academic English from further back books a longer one, often across a whole school term. The full practice attempt shows which section is short, and the application calendar decides how many sessions a week fit before the sitting. Online sessions use the online rate, and sessions at your home use the home-visit rate for your area. If a scholarship fund, an employer or someone at home is covering the bill, the candidate and the payer each get the plan, the total hours and the total cost in writing before anything goes on the schedule.
FAQ
What candidates ask
Usually beginning with which test to take
01
TOEFL or IELTS: which should I take?
Whichever test your institution names in writing is the one to take, and being wrong about that costs an entire sitting. Where either is genuinely accepted, TOEFL runs entirely at a computer in one sitting, with tasks that expect you to read or listen to something and then write or speak about it immediately after. Candidates comfortable with dense academic reading and a long session behind a screen tend to find it a natural fit. Which one feels easier depends on the person sitting it, and one practice attempt of each shows it quickly.
03
My English is good. Do I need preparation at all?
A single timed practice attempt answers that in one sitting. The combined tasks are usually what costs a strong English speaker points here: reading something, then writing about it, or listening to something, then speaking about it, inside a strict amount of time. Almost nobody finds that combination natural at first. Getting comfortable with it is often a handful of focused sessions, and that is the size of plan we propose.
05
How long should I prepare?
It depends on the gap between where a practice attempt puts you and what your institution requires, which is why we start there. For a strong candidate needing format familiarity, weeks. For someone whose academic English is still well below the requirement, considerably longer, and the plan you receive lays out those months in writing from the first week.
07
Should I book the test date now?
Sit one full practice attempt first, under real conditions. Booking by hope is how candidates pay twice: once for a sitting that was never going to reach the number and again for the real one. If the practice attempt says the date is achievable, book it. If it does not, deferring is cheaper than sitting.
09
Is online preparation as good as in person?
For this particular test, yes. Every section is answered on a keyboard and into a microphone, so a session run the same way trains the real exam conditions. In-home sessions suit a candidate who reads and drafts better away from a screen, with a TOEFL tutor matched to your city.
11
How much does it cost?
TOEFL preparation is billed at the hourly figure in the languages band of Eduline's rate card, shown in the rate panel above, with one rate for online sessions and another for sessions at your home. The rate stays the same from candidate to candidate, and the total comes down to hours. A student who only needs the combined tasks and the timing drilled may need a handful of sessions, while someone whose academic English sits well short of the requirement needs considerably more, spread across the months before the application deadline. After the practice attempt, or a close read of a past score report, you get the plan in writing: which sections, how many hours, how many sessions a week, and the total. When someone other than the candidate settles the invoice, whether a relative, an employer or a sponsor, the same written plan reaches the candidate and the payer together before anything is scheduled.
02
What is actually on the test?
The task list, the timing and the scoring all live in the official TOEFL materials from ETS, and the tutor works from their current edition. The format gets updated from time to time, and a review book written a few years back can describe a task that has since changed shape. Tell us what you have already read from the official source, and the plan is built around that.
04
I studied in English my whole life. Surely I do not need this?
Years of English-medium schooling are a real head start, and one timed practice attempt shows exactly how far it carries you. For a Filipino candidate the Reading and Listening sections usually feel comfortable from the first attempt. The points to win sit in the two sections done live, where an answer has to be built and delivered inside a short window, into a microphone or onto a keyboard, with nothing coming back to react to. A few focused sessions on those timed tasks turn the head start into the score.
06
I fell short on Speaking. What do I do differently?
The conditions are usually the real target here: a few seconds to plan, then talking into a microphone that records without giving anything back. Comfortable conversationalists often go quiet, speed up, or run out of things to say in that exact gap. Recording a timed answer and playing it back the same day is uncomfortable, and it is the fastest fix available. Put no more effort into the sections that already passed.
08
Are vocabulary lists worth it?
Less than the effort they absorb. Lists produce recognition, and the tasks want use: combining a reading with a lecture and producing an answer. Academic vocabulary is better built by reading widely in academic material, where words arrive in context and turn up again in your own writing.
10
Can you guarantee the score I need?
What happens on the day, how TOEFL is scored, and how your target institution reads that score afterward rest on your performance and on their rules. What we promise is careful preparation, along with a different tutor at no cost the moment you would like one.
Send the requirement your school or agency put in writing, your deadline, and a past TOEFL score report if one exists. Someone actually reads through it. The usual first suggestion after that is a full timed practice attempt, since one real sitting shows more in an hour than weeks of guessing would.
