IELTS Review Philippines, built backwards from the band you need
IELTS review in the Philippines, one tutor with one adult, across Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, each scored in half bands from 0 to 9. You already know the number, because your regulator, university or employer set it. The work closes the distance between that band and the one you would get today, in the components where the gap sits.

What is
IELTS preparation
One tutor working with one adult on the four IELTS components (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking) scored on the 0-9 band scale in half bands. Preparation is planned around the band you have been told to reach and the date you must reach it by, so the course is exactly as long as your gap needs.
Key Points
Academic or General Training, depending on what you are applying for
Four components, each banded separately, with an overall band on the same 0-9 scale
The required band comes from your regulator, university or employer: we build the plan around it
Writing and Speaking are marked by a person who explains the score, which is the whole point of one-to-one
One published hourly rate for IELTS, online or at home; the number of hours is what follows your band gap and test date, and that plan is put in writing before you book
How the sessions run
Adults book around work, so the format follows the shift pattern, day shift or night
The usual choice, and the strongest one here. Speaking practice over video is closer to the computer-delivered test than a face-to-face session is, and it survives a shift change without cancelling the week.
- Evening and early-morning slots for shift workers
- Writing submitted between sessions and returned marked
- Speaking practice recorded so you can hear what the examiner hears
For learners who want a tutor physically in the room, once one is available near you. The Speaking test is a live conversation with an examiner, and rehearsing it face to face catches hesitation a video call can hide.
- Full Speaking rehearsals in the room
- Written work annotated in front of you
- Scheduled around your roster, week by week
A tighter schedule once the test is booked: full timed papers, Writing turned around faster, and Speaking rehearsed under the real part structure until the timing stops being a surprise.
- Full papers under exam timing
- Hours moved to the weakest component
- A clear read on the band reachable by your date
What one-to-one actually buys you here
What a tutor adds to every IELTS book and practice test
Your Writing gets marked by a person
With the band and the reason. Practicing Writing without marking rehearses the same mistakes, and it is the component that most often holds an overall band down.
Hours go where your gap is
If Reading is already at your target, you do not pay for Reading lessons. A class cannot do that; a batch course charges you for the components you had already passed.
Scheduled around shifts
Evening and early-morning slots, and online so a roster change simply moves a session to another slot.
Your test date checked against the gap
The diagnostic shows how far you are from the band you need, and the plan fixes a test date that preparation can reach. A candidate more than a band short gets a longer runway and a date that matches it.
Built on the examiners' own descriptors
IELTS examiners mark every band against fixed public descriptors. The preparation is built on those same descriptors, criterion by criterion, and your tutor is replaced free of charge at your word.
The rate is published, the hours are planned
IELTS preparation is charged at the rate we publish for language tutoring, so a nurse, a scholarship applicant and a migrant pay the same per hour for the same kind of session. What differs is how many hours your band gap needs before your test date, and you see that count, with its total, on paper before you book anything.
Where you are starting from
The gap between your current band and your target decides everything else
| Aspect | You have not taken it yet No band to work from | Half a band to a band short The most common case | More than a band short A longer plan, laid out from week one |
|---|---|---|---|
| Description | The first job is finding out where you actually are, which is rarely where people assume. A full practice test under timing gives a working estimate for each component, and the plan is written from those numbers. | Usually one component holding the overall down: very often Writing. At this distance the work is specific and the timeline is short, because the problem has a name and a clear fix. | Here the gap sits in the language itself, so the plan builds grammar, vocabulary and stamina first and adds test technique on top. You see the full timeline before you book, with the test date set to match it. |

The four components
Weighted after the diagnostic, so every hour goes to the module that moves your band
Writing is the component that most often holds an overall band down, and it is also the one that cannot be improved by practice alone: it needs marking, with the reason explained.
Two tasks, assessed on four criteria. Practicing without marking mostly rehearses the same mistakes, which is why this component rewards one-to-one more than any other.
Topics covered- Task 1: describing data, or a letter in General Training
- Task 2: building an argument that holds for the full essay
- The four assessment criteria, in plain language
- Marked work returned with the band and the reason for it

What IELTS preparation costs per hour
IELTS is charged at the rate we publish for language tutoring. A nurse, a student and a skilled worker pay the same figure per hour for the same format; your band gap and the weeks left before your test date set how many hours the plan holds.
From
₱500 / hour
| Home visit, Metro Manila | ₱700 / hour |
| Online | ₱500 / hour |
| Home visit, provincial areas | ₱500 / hour |
Per hour, one tutor with one learner. Home visits run at least 1.5 hours. Packages: 12 hours at 5% off, 24 hours at 10% off.
Send the band you need, your last test report if you have one, and your test date. You receive a written plan listing hours per component, sessions per week and the total, and nothing is booked until you agree to it. Shift workers can mix online sessions with home visits, each at its own rate above.
Questions people ask
Mostly from people booking this for themselves
- Can you guarantee I get the band I need?
- The band is decided by an examiner against published criteria. What we commit to is that the hours go where your gap actually is, that your Writing is marked by a person who explains the score, and that you are told plainly how your target lines up with your test date. Want a different tutor for Speaking or Writing along the way? The replacement is free.
- What band will I need?
- That number comes from the body receiving your result. Regulators, universities and employers set their own band requirements and revise them without notice. Many also set a floor for each component, so a strong overall band can still miss the requirement on one weak score. Bring the letter or portal page that states yours, and preparation targets that number, floors included.
- I have already taken it once and missed the band. Does that help?
- It helps a great deal: bring the test report. It tells us which components were short and by how much, which is the diagnostic we would otherwise spend a session producing. Retaking without changing the preparation is the most reliable way to get the same result twice.
- How much does it cost?
- The hourly figures are on this page, in the rate box. IELTS uses the rate we publish for language tutoring, which has a Metro Manila home-visit price, a lower online price, and a provincial home-visit price for places like Cebu or Davao. Where people differ is the number of hours. A college applicant half a band short on Reading with two months to spare may need a short, focused plan, while a nurse two bands short on Writing with a registration deadline needs more sessions each week and more weeks. Tell us the band you need, your last test report if you have one, and your test date; a written plan with the hours and its total reaches you before you book. Each home visit lasts ninety minutes or more, enough for a full Speaking rehearsal and a marked Writing task in one go.
- Academic or General Training: which do I take?
- It depends on what you are applying for. Academic is generally for university study and for several professional registration bodies; General Training is generally for work and migration routes. Check the requirement of the specific body you are applying to before booking the test, because taking the wrong module is an expensive mistake that preparation cannot fix.
- How long will it take?
- It depends on the distance to the band you need. Half a band to a full band, with one weak component, is usually a matter of weeks and a specific plan. A gap of more than a band calls for building the language itself, a longer plan that pairs General English work with IELTS practice. You see that plan, with its length, in writing before the first session.
- Is online as good as face to face for Speaking?
- For this test, often better. Speaking over video resembles the computer-delivered format more closely than sitting across a table does, and recording the rehearsal lets you hear your own hesitation, which is usually the thing costing the band. If you speak more freely with someone in the room, say so and we will plan around that instead.
Tell us the band and the date
Write down the band you're aiming for, your current band if you've taken the test already, and the date if one is booked. Someone here reads every message personally, and you hear back with a plan counted in hours at the published rate and a tutor matched to your weakest component, ready to meet before you decide anything.
- Plan built backwards from your target band
- Writing marked by a person
- Scheduled around shift work
- A test date matched to your band gap
