Math Tutor Jobs Philippines: MATATAG to General Mathematics
Math tutor jobs in the Philippines with Eduline run part-time, as home visits near where you live or as online sessions. Applying costs nothing. In SY 2026-2027, Grades 1 to 9 study MATATAG math, while Grade 10 keeps the older K to 12 program until SY 2027-2028, so your learners may carry two different syllabi.
What a math tutor does each week
You teach one learner at a time, at the learner's home or on a video call, working on whatever that learner's class is covering this term. A typical session opens with a quiz, seatwork or long test the learner brings, finds the exact step where the reasoning slipped, and rebuilds it with fresh items of the same kind. You close by setting a few problems for the days ahead and noting what still trips the learner up, so the next session starts from evidence.
MATATAG math is organized in three domains: Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Data and Probability. From Grade 7 to Grade 9 this covers sets and real numbers, functions, equations and inequalities, sequences, axiomatic geometry, congruent and similar triangles, basic trigonometry, statistics and probability. Financial literacy is woven through the strands, so expect word problems on profit and loss, best buys and buying on terms. Grade 10 learners this year still follow the older competencies, and a secondary math tutor keeps both lists at hand.
The school year that opened on 8 June 2026 runs on three terms, each with two summative tests and a term exam. A passing grade of 75 now calls for a raw score in the 70 to 72.99 range, up from 60, and teachers are asked to flag struggling learners by week 5 of each term. Requests for a tutor cluster around those checkpoints: the week before a summative test, right after a low term score, or when a teacher recommends after-class remediation.
In the younger grades the work is number sense: counting, place value, the four operations and short word problems. National assessment results reported by EDCOM 2 in January 2026 showed Grade 3 gaps in exactly these skills, and PISA 2022 found 16% of Filipino 15-year-olds at Level 2 or above in math. Tutors who are patient with the foundations, and who use objects, drawings and number lines before symbols, suit these learners best.
Older learners bring different goals. Grade 11 students on both the Academic and TechPro tracks take General Mathematics as a core subject. Grade 12 students preparing for college entrance tests want speed and accuracy in the math subtests. Working adults return to arithmetic and word problems for the Numerical Ability part of the Civil Service Exam. Each group gets a session plan built around its own test format.
Levels and topics you would teach
Tell us which of these you teach well. Placements are matched to the levels you name, from early number sense up to adult exam review.
- Number sense, Grades 1 to 6
Counting, place value, operations with whole numbers and fractions, and simple problem-solving, taught with manipulatives and drawings before written procedures.
- MATATAG math, Grades 7 to 9
Real numbers, functions, equations, inequalities, sequences, triangle congruence and similarity, basic trigonometry, statistics and probability under the Key Stage 3 guide.
- Grade 10 on the older program
Grade 10 joins MATATAG only in SY 2027-2028, so this year's Grade 10 learners still follow the previous K to 12 math competencies.
- General Mathematics, Grade 11
Core in the Strengthened Senior High School curriculum, taught in Grade 11 only and taken on both the Academic and TechPro tracks.
- College entrance math subtests
Review for the UPCAT Mathematics subtest, taken without calculating devices, and for the DCAT, which tests at the Manila campus on 8 November 2026.
- Civil Service numerical review
Basic operations, number sequences and word problems for both exam levels, plus data interpretation for Professional level, all done by hand.
What you need to apply
Strong math, clear explaining and the documents below. Teaching experience helps, and a math degree is one route among several.
- Sure command of math through Grade 10, and General Mathematics too if you want Grade 11 learners.
- Working knowledge of the MATATAG math domains and the older Grade 10 competencies running beside them this school year.
- Quick, accurate mental arithmetic, because the UPCAT and the Civil Service Exam allow no calculator of any kind.
- Comfort using English math terms, as the curriculum guide recommends, and switching to Filipino or the learner's language to clear up a step.
- Any valid government-issued ID and proof of your studies (diploma or TOR); math placements need no PRC license.
- NBI clearance in hand before the first math learner, required of every tutor.
- For online sessions: a stable connection, a device with a camera, and a way to write equations and graphs clearly on screen.
How math placements are paid
Each math offer prints its hourly rate first. The topic, the grade and whether you go to the home or teach online decide the figure. A Grade 4 fractions placement and a General Mathematics review reach you as separate offers, each with its own rate shown up front, and you decide on each one.
As you apply, ask for current math rates at the levels you teach and the team will tell you. You also list your free teaching hours, and offers fall only inside them, so tutoring can run beside a school post, college classes or another job.
From application to your first math learner
- 1
Send one short application
Say who you are, which math levels you teach, from number sense to General Mathematics or exam review, and your free weekly hours.
- 2
Send your documents
Government ID, diploma or transcript, the PRC card if licensed, and NBI clearance before your first math placement.
- 3
Talk through your math
A conversation online or by phone with a person on the team about the grades, topics and exam formats you want to teach.
- 4
Accept a first placement
You receive an offer naming the math topic, grade level, schedule and hourly rate, and you say yes when it suits you. Your first learner starts on the agreed day.
Questions math tutor applicants ask
Can I tutor Grade 10 math while MATATAG is still rolling out?
Yes. Grade 10 moves to MATATAG in SY 2027-2028, so this year's Grade 10 learners study the older K to 12 math competencies. Tell us you teach Grade 10 and we match you to those learners, while Grades 7 to 9 follow the MATATAG Key Stage 3 guide.
Must a math tutor with Eduline hold a PRC license?
You can apply without one. What counts is that you know the math for the levels you name and can explain it clearly. Each applicant shows a government ID and a diploma or TOR, and clears NBI before teaching.
Will I teach adults reviewing for the Civil Service Exam?
Adults do ask for numerical review. The Civil Service Exam covers basic operations, number sequences and word problems at both levels, adds data interpretation at Professional level, needs a rating of 80.00 to pass, and bans calculators. Mention this in your application and you will be considered for these learners.
Can I teach math online from a province with brownouts?
Yes, math placements online take tutors from every province. Rotating brownouts hit the Luzon and Visayas grids in May 2026, so keep a charged backup device or a mobile data plan ready. The August 2026 median mobile download speed was 66.33 Mbps, enough for a video call with a shared whiteboard.
Which free tools help when I teach math on a video call?
GeoGebra offers graphing, geometry and a whiteboard-style Notes tool, and Desmos runs a free graphing calculator. Both let a learner watch a graph move as you change an equation. Use whichever lets you write clearly, and keep a camera angle on paper for handwritten working.
Should I explain math in English or Filipino?
Use English for the math terms, as the MATATAG curriculum guide recommends, so learners meet the words their tests use. Filipino or the learner's own language is a fine tool for explaining a step, and switching between them is often what makes a word problem click.
