Online math tutor jobs Philippines, solved live on a shared board
Online math tutor jobs on the Philippine curriculum, part-time, taught by video call from the Philippines or from Singapore, the UAE and six other network countries. You write solutions on a shared whiteboard, graph on screen and mark photographed worksheets. Grade 9 math moved to the MATATAG curriculum this school year, SY 2026-2027. No fee to apply.
How an online math session runs
The session opens on a shared screen. The learner holds up or sends a photo of the worksheet, you pull it onto the whiteboard and work the first item beside it in your own handwriting with a stylus or pen tablet. Then the learner takes the next item while you watch each line appear, stopping them at the step where a sign flips or a fraction goes wrong.
Graphs and figures are where the screen earns its keep. A linear function, a parabola or a set of triangles can be drawn exactly, dragged and changed while the learner predicts what will move. Browser tools such as the GeoGebra graphing calculator and geometry app, or the Desmos calculator, do this in a browser, and GeoGebra Notes gives a page that behaves like a whiteboard.
Homework comes back as photos, and checking a worked solution from one has a routine. The learner numbers every line, keeps one step to a line and shoots the page flat in daylight. You open the photo on the board and circle the first line that breaks: a sign dropped when a term crosses the equals sign, or two denominators added together. Everything below it is marked as following from that slip, so the learner sees one real error in place of five red marks. Two or three fresh items aimed at that step go back with the photo, and a short record of each learner's slips keeps the next call on the same weak spot.
Many learners come from public schools now on a three-term calendar, where Term 2 runs from mid-September to mid-December and summative tests come at set points in each term. Others are Grade 11 students taking General Mathematics, and some are working adults reviewing the numerical items of the Civil Service Exam. An online tutor serves all of them from one desk, wherever that desk is.
If you trained outside the Philippines, here is how DepEd names the years. Elementary covers Grades 1 to 6, Junior High Grades 7 to 10 and Senior High Grades 11 and 12. This school year, Kinder to Grade 9 learn math under MATATAG, while Grade 10 stays on the older MELC-based sequence until SY 2027-2028. Grade 11 takes General Mathematics as one of five core subjects of the Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum, and Grade 12 finishes on the existing SHS curriculum. The learner's own module tells you which syllabus you are teaching.
Where your online math learners study
The shared board reaches learners in the provinces, Filipino learners abroad and learners whose school runs a syllabus other than DepEd's, and each setting changes how you run the call.
- Provinces on mobile data
In 2024, 48.8% of Philippine households had internet, against 68.7% in NCR, and mobile broadband served 39.3% of connected homes. Many learners join on a phone, so write large and send worksheets as light images.
- Philippine Schools Overseas
These DepEd-recognized schools follow the Philippine curriculum and enroll more than 25,000 Filipino learners across 10 countries. They are part of the SY 2026-2027 reforms, so a Grade 11 learner abroad still meets General Mathematics.
- Learners on another syllabus
Some learners attend international schools in Philippine cities, or host-country schools abroad, and follow an IB, Cambridge or national syllabus while wanting a Filipino tutor for its math. You teach from their own textbook and past papers, and the DepEd sequence you know becomes a quick check on which topics they have already met and which are still ahead.
Math topics you write out on screen
These parts of the subject suit a shared screen and a stylus, because the learner can watch every step being written and graphed.
- Functions and their graphs
Plot, slide and compare graphs live so learners in Key Stage 3 see how a change in the equation reshapes the curve.
- Geometry and triangle proofs
Draw congruent and similar triangles on the board, label angles in color and build each proof one reason at a time.
- Word problems and financial literacy
Work through markups, comparing prices per unit and installment buying with the learner writing the equation first.
- No-calculator mental arithmetic
Timed drills for the UPCAT math subtest and the Civil Service Exam, both of which ban calculating devices, so every answer is worked by hand and shown line by line. Regular Key Stage 3 schoolwork runs on another rule: the MATATAG guide allows a calculating device there as added support, and you switch between the two to suit the task in front of the learner.
- Statistics and probability
Build frequency tables and probability trees on the whiteboard, then check answers with a quick on-screen simulation.
- The gap under the current lesson
A Grade 8 algebra problem often traces back to Grade 5 fractions, so the first call works backward to find the earlier step and rebuilds it before the new topic.
How a math call changes from band to band
Three curricula run side by side this school year, and the shape of a call follows the band. Open the learner's module before planning; these are the bands the requests come from.
Kinder number sense
Counting, comparing and sorting real quantities, the groundwork that makes Grade 1 arithmetic feel obvious. Attention is the limit at this age, so a call is short, often about 45 minutes, with an adult beside the screen and spoons, coins or blocks from the house on the table.
Grades 1 to 6, where foundations are laid
MATATAG cut the required competencies here, so fewer topics carry more weight each. Place value and fractions are the two that cause the most damage when they slip, and slow arithmetic eats the attention a new topic needs, so fluency in the four operations earns its share of the hour.
Grades 7 to 9 on MATATAG
Arithmetic turns into algebra and proof. Teach the letter as a way of holding an unknown, build linear equations and inequalities on that idea, and treat a triangle proof as the learner's first argument that has to hold from start to finish.
Grade 10, still on the MELC sequence
This year's Grade 10 learner covers a different set of topics from the Grade 9 learner next door, until the changeover in SY 2027-2028. Confirm which competency the school is marking before you build a review around it.
Grade 11 General Mathematics
Part of the shared core every Senior High learner takes, whichever elective cluster they chose, with business and financial math among its topics. A learner told they need STEM-strand math is working from a strand system that stopped governing Grade 11 in June 2026.
Exam review with an end date
UPCAT Mathematics, a Senior High entrance test, or the numerical items of the Civil Service Exam. These plans are short and dated: built backward from the paper, using past papers where they exist, with calls more frequent until the test and then stopping.
The math tutor learners do best with
A tutor who looks underneath the current chapter. A student lost in Grade 7 algebra is usually missing something from Grade 4, and teaching this week's lesson on top of that hole is the most common way tutoring hours go to waste. The first session with each learner is diagnostic for this reason: you find the missing piece, then plan.
A tutor who teaches why each step works. Many learners pass by memorizing procedures, and those procedures stop carrying them once the abstraction rises in Junior High. Ask the learner to say what a line does before writing the next one, and the method starts to hold without you.
A tutor who can go past the syllabus. A few learners arrive ahead of their class and bored, and a batch class serves them badly. For them the same hour goes further, into harder and competition-style problems, so a tutor who enjoys those problems is a good match for that request.
A tutor comfortable on a shared board. You write legibly with a stylus, switch between the whiteboard, a graphing tool and the learner's photographed worksheet without losing the thread, and keep the screen tidy enough that a learner on a phone can follow each line.
Formal teaching experience is optional. Elementary-level placements are open to undergraduates, and the review weighs how clearly you explain a step to someone meeting it for the first time. For proof of education, a TOR, diploma or teaching qualification works, plus your LET certificate if you hold one.
What you need to tutor math online
The math comes first, and a steady setup lets you show it clearly to a learner in a province or overseas.
- Strong command of school math from Grade 3 through Grade 11 General Mathematics, or of the levels you choose to teach.
- Readiness to teach from the learner's own DepEd module or school worksheet, whichever of this year's math syllabi the learner is on.
- Awareness that Grade 10 keeps its pre-MATATAG K to 12 math curriculum until SY 2027-2028, running beside MATATAG this year.
- A laptop or tablet with a stylus or pen tablet, a webcam, a headset and a quiet place to teach.
- A connection that holds a video call and a shared board for a full 60 to 90 minute session, plus mobile data or a power bank ready for a brownout.
- Comfort using English math terms, which the MATATAG guide recommends, while explaining in Filipino or a home language when it helps.
- Patience to find the exact step where a learner goes wrong and to build a short practice set around it.
- A home base in a network country, which today means the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, India, Qatar, the UAE, Egypt or Kenya.
- For a tutor based in the Philippines, an NBI clearance ahead of the first math placement; tutors based elsewhere in the network send a government ID and proof of qualification.
Common snags on a math call, and how to handle each
Most of these show up in the first weeks of a placement. Knowing the response in advance keeps the call moving.
- "I am bad at math"
- A learner who says this has usually met a gap without a name. Find it, close it with items the learner gets right, and point to the step they now do alone. The grade stays the school's to give; steady work on the real gap is what the hour controls.
- Word problems read too fast
- A word problem is a reading problem wearing a math costume. Have the learner find the question inside the paragraph, translate it into an expression, solve it, then ask whether the answer is plausible. Shown working also earns partial credit on a school test.
- Paper the camera cannot read
- Most learners still write on paper, and lifting the sheet toward the camera is usually quicker than typing. Ask for dark pencil and space between items, and for a long set, use the numbered photo routine described above.
- Homework the learner wants finished
- A learner short on time may ask you to solve the set. Work the same problems with the learner holding the pencil, one line at a time, until the method holds without you. A completed answer sheet looks fine for one grade and leaves the gap sitting under the next test.
- A graded test coming up
- Ahead of a summative test or a term exam, sessions can step up for a few weeks with a clear stop date. Agree that date at the start, plan the topics backward from the test, and drop back to the usual rhythm once it is sat.
- Frequency once the gap closes
- A learner repairing a real gap usually starts weekly, and the frequency eases as fluency returns; a learner who passes by leaning on memorized steps often does fine every other week. Raise the change with Eduline, and the team settles it with the learner's side.
- A learner who stops turning up
- Missed calls, a push for extra hours past the agreed plan, a slot that no longer suits: pass it to Eduline, which handles those conversations, and keep your own hours for teaching.
How online math pay is offered
The hourly rate for online math is set per placement from the subject, the learner's grade and the online setting. A learner working through Grade 11 General Mathematics and a pupil drilling Grade 4 fractions are priced as separate placements, each on its own terms.
You read that rate in the offer itself, beside the math level and the session times, and you accept only once the numbers suit you. The teaching window you named in your application is where Eduline places each learner's calls, so a math placement fits around the rest of your week.
From application to your first online learner
- 1
Tell us which math you teach
Introduce yourself, list the math you cover, from Grade 3 to Gen Math or exam review, and name the country you live in and the hours you can be online.
- 2
Send your ID and diploma
One government ID, plus your transcript or diploma. PRC licensure is optional. Living in the Philippines? Add an NBI clearance before your first learner.
- 3
A call about your math
Expect a call, phone or video, about the topics and grade levels you handle well, and how you run a session on a shared board.
- 4
Read your first math placement
A placement offer reaches you with the learner's grade and syllabus, the session times on your clock and the hourly rate. Accept it, and the first call opens on the learner's own worksheet.
After the application form
The form takes a minute: name, email, a WhatsApp contact (pick its country code) and the country you live in, then a human check. A welcome email follows within minutes with the link to your tutor account. Gmail often files it under Promotions or Updates; if it reached Spam, mark it Not spam so later math offers arrive in the inbox.
Sign in with the Google address you used on the form and the account exists in about two minutes. Inside it you build a profile (the math you cover, from Grade 3 work to Gen Math or exam review, and the hours you keep free) and add documents, which takes roughly twenty minutes. From then on the account holds your schedule, offers and lesson records. No Google account on that email? Write to eduline.ph@gmail.com and the team sets you up.
Documents: a valid ID such as a PRC ID, PhilSys National ID, LTO driver's license or a passport with six or more months of validity; a clear, recent picture of yourself; and your TOR, diploma or teaching qualification. Phone photos work, up to 5 MB for the ID or face photo and 10 MB for an education document, and every file is encrypted (AES-256) before storage. Tutors based in the Philippines add an NBI clearance just before their first placement.
Next comes a document review by email, then four short training modules on class setup and how placements run, then your first offer by email with the grade, syllabus, session times and hourly rate together. You answer yes or no, and a no carries no penalty. If the account step is left undone, at most two reminder emails follow before Eduline stops writing.
No fee is charged anywhere along the way. A message in Eduline's name asking you for money, an OTP, a PIN or a GCash or Maya MPIN did not come from the team; forward it to eduline.ph@gmail.com and do not reply.
Questions from online math tutor applicants
Can I apply if I live outside the Philippines?
Yes, if home is Kenya, Egypt, Qatar, the UAE, India, Thailand, Malaysia or Singapore, the eight network countries beyond the Philippines. The role is online only, so a learner in a far province and a learner at a Philippine school in Doha meet you on the same shared board. The NBI clearance applies to applicants living in the Philippines; applicants abroad apply with a government ID and proof of qualification.
Do I need a stylus or pen tablet to teach math online?
A stylus or pen tablet makes the work far easier, since math is written by hand: fractions, exponents, radicals and diagrams. Typing equations slows a session down. A tablet with a pen, or a pen tablet plugged into a laptop, lets the learner watch each step appear the way it would on paper.
Do I need an LPT license to tutor math online?
A license is welcome and optional. A licensed professional teacher can apply, and so can a math or engineering graduate, or an education student close to the board exam. Philippine law already relies on tutors like these: RA 12028, the ARAL Program Act, lets pre-service teachers give its reading and math tutorials and allows those sessions face-to-face, online or blended. What the call with Eduline looks at is how cleanly you explain a step on the board.
Which grade levels ask most often for online math help?
Requests come from every stage: Grades 3, 6 and 9, which moved to MATATAG this school year; Grade 10, still on the older curriculum; Grade 11 students in General Mathematics; and learners reviewing for the UPCAT. Working adults preparing for the Civil Service Exam ask for help with numerical ability too.
I trained abroad. Which DepEd math words should I learn first?
The notation will look familiar, because DepEd worksheets write math in English terms, as the MATATAG guide recommends. The words around the math are local. A module is the learner's lesson booklet, printed or digital; Gen Math is General Mathematics, the Grade 11 core subject; a summative test is the graded check given at set points in each term; and 75 is the passing grade on a report card, now tied to a raw-score requirement set this school year. If you speak Filipino, a stuck step can be retold in it. Under RA 12027, Filipino and English are the languages of instruction from Kinder to Grade 3, so younger pupils meet numbers in one of those two, and slower English with a drawing on the board carries the rest.
Will I prepare learners for the UPCAT?
Grade 10 and Grade 11 learners ask for it most. The UPCAT has four subtests, Mathematics among them, and UP combines the score with the final grades of Grades 8, 9, 10 and 11. So the review runs on two tracks: steady school marks through Junior High and Grade 11, and quick hand-worked answers for a test that bars calculating devices. On a shared board you time each item, then replay the learner's working line by line to find where the seconds went.
What hours do learners abroad keep?
The Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia share one clock, UTC+8. A learner in Doha who sits down after school at 4 pm is meeting you at 9 pm Manila time, and the UAE sits at UTC+4, so a 5 pm start there is 9 pm on your board in Manila. A tutor in Manila who keeps evenings free can therefore take a Gulf learner after that learner's school day.
What happens to a session when classes are suspended for a typhoon?
Under DepEd Order 37 of 2022, school classes, in person and online, are cancelled automatically in areas under a Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal. That order governs schools. For your session, the learner's safety leads: you set a new time together and resume from the same item.
Can I ask to be moved to a different learner?
Yes. Tell Eduline you want a different math learner at any point, with no reason needed, and the re-match is arranged. Eduline also replaces a tutor free of charge whenever a learner asks, so each pairing on the shared board carries on because both sides want it to.
How often will I meet the same learner?
A learner closing a real gap usually starts with one call a week, and the frequency eases once the competency holds. Before a graded assessment the calls can step up for a few weeks with a stop date attached. Any change runs through Eduline, and you only take hours inside the window you named.
Can a learner switch between online and home lessons with me?
Yes, where you also teach in person nearby. A learner can start online and move to home lessons later, or go the other way, and keep the same tutor throughout. If you teach online only, say so when you apply, and only online placements reach you.
