Entrance Exam Review Tutor Jobs Philippines: UPCAT to DCAT season
Entrance exam review tutor jobs, Philippines: part-time roles coaching Grade 11 and Grade 12 learners, and graduates on a gap year, for college admission tests, at home visits close to you or in online sessions. Applying costs nothing. UST counts the USTET for 80 percent of an applicant's final rating and school grades for the other 20.
Reviewing by subtest, clock and calendar
An entrance exam review tutor works with learners who already know which colleges they are aiming for. The first session is a diagnostic: one timed set from each subtest the target exam carries, checked together, so the learner sees which section loses the most points and which one eats the clock. The plan is then built backward from the first test the learner registered for and carried over to the tests that come later in the season.
A learner who applied to several colleges arrives holding several permits, and the plan follows them in date order. This cycle the UPCAT came first, on 1 and 2 August 2026. UST tests USTET applicants in Manila on 18 October 2026, 6 December 2026 and 24 January 2027, De La Salle holds its Manila DCAT on 8 November, and Ateneo tests Metro Manila ACET takers on 16 January 2027. Each sitting that passes frees hours for the next paper, so the reviewer reweights the week: ACET essays and abstract reasoning move up as January nears, and USTET Mental Ability sets drop away once the learner's own sitting is behind them.
Each exam asks for a different mix. The UPCAT runs about five hours across Language Proficiency, Science, Mathematics and Reading Comprehension, with English and Filipino in both language parts. The ACET covers mathematics, English, general knowledge and abstract reasoning, adds an essay, and has no Filipino section. UST names four USTET parts: Mental Ability, English, Mathematics and Science. DLSU publishes no official subtest breakdown, so DCAT review leans on core math, science, English and reading, with the learner told plainly which parts are confirmed.
Pacing carries as much weight as content. Ateneo's own advice to ACET takers is to skip a question that stalls them, move on, and come back to it, and to check that every answer is shaded on the right number. Calculators are banned and scratch paper is handed out, so a reviewer drills mental arithmetic and tidy written working against a timer. Ateneo also tells takers to stop studying a full day before the test, and the last session of a good plan respects that.
Most of these tests are pencil-and-paper sittings at a testing center, so the strongest home session is a full paper at the dining table: started at the real test hour, a printed answer sheet and two sharpened pencils, no phone or calculator, and the tutor keeping time from the next chair. A USTET taker rehearses early, since UST closes its building gates at exactly 7:15 AM and asks examinees to arrive one to two hours ahead.
Review also sits on top of a full Grade 12 year. DepEd's school year began on 8 June 2026 and ends on 8 April 2027 across three terms, and some schools on shifting schedules start classes as early as 5:30 a.m., as reported in Rizal. Because school grades in English, Mathematics and Science feed the USTET rating, mocks are placed away from term exams.
Tests and test sites past the big four
Many learners add a polytechnic, city or state university test to their list, and a reviewer plans for the paper and the site of each one.
- USTET centers in Manila and the provinces
UST Manila is the main center, with satellite rooms at UST Angelicum College, St. Stephen's High School and Letran, and provincial sittings in Naga, Vigan, General Santos, Puerto Princesa, Tacloban and Zamboanga, so a learner outside Manila reviews at home for a test in their own region.
- PUPCET at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines
Applications go only through PUP iApply, with a Grade 11 report card showing the GWA for both semesters. PUP allows one campus and one application per academic year, so the learner settles the campus before review starts, and the reviewer sets the PUPCET block once PUP posts the cycle's dates on iApply.
- PLMAT at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila
PLM's admissions page for the AY 2024-2025 intake described the PLMAT as a four-hour test with subtests in English, Science, Mathematics, Filipino and Abstract Reasoning, with a Grade 11 GWA cutoff set for each cycle. The last cycle sat in batches in December 2025, as the PLM student paper reported, so a PLMAT taker gives Filipino and abstract reasoning their own weeks late in the year.
- Mapúa's placement assessment
Mapúa's support page describes the Mapúa Program Placement Assessment as a test that points an applicant to suitable college programs, taken fully online on a PC or laptop with a stable connection. Mapúa lists no subtests for it, so review rests on the math, science and English the other tests sample, with the intended program talked through first.
- State university admission tests
State universities write their own college admission tests. Central Luzon State University, for one, returned to a face-to-face College Admission Test in 2023 and that year ran it in three sessions a day, at 8 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., so a reviewer reads which session the permit names and times the mocks to that hour.
Exam parts an entrance reviewer teaches
The parts below come from the published test descriptions; where a school publishes no breakdown, review follows the subjects secondary sources report for that exam.
- UPCAT Language Proficiency
Grammar, usage and vocabulary items in English and Filipino, reviewed in short timed blocks so the learner keeps both languages sharp.
- Reading Comprehension in two languages
UPCAT passages in English and Filipino: finding the main point fast, reading the question first, and leaving no item unanswered when time runs short.
- Mathematics with no calculator
Word problems and computation worked by hand on scratch paper, since the ACET bans calculators and the UPCAT and USTET are taken in person at a test center.
- Science for UPCAT and USTET
Junior and senior high science concepts reviewed as quick recall items, with a short reasoning step written behind each answer.
- Abstract reasoning and mental ability
Pattern series and figure analogies for the ACET abstract reasoning part and the Mental Ability part UST lists first among the USTET subtests.
- The ACET essay
Planning and writing a short, organized essay under time pressure, with feedback on structure and clarity after each timed attempt.
- The USTET LEAPMed Entrance Test
An afternoon paper in Anatomy, Botany, Chemistry, Physics, Physiology and Zoology for UST's LEAPMed applicants, sat after the morning USTET with lunch brought in.
- Answer sheet and section pacing
Shading on the correct number, skipping a stuck item and returning to it, and stopping cleanly at the end of each section.
What an entrance exam reviewer needs
- A degree from a university whose entrance test you review for, or equal depth in the subjects that test samples.
- Solid command of high school math, science, English and reading, plus Filipino for learners taking the UPCAT.
- Ability to time a section, check it with the learner and explain every missed item in plain words.
- Working knowledge of how the big four, UPCAT, USTET, ACET and DCAT, differ this cycle in their parts, test-day rules and dates.
- Papers: a government ID valid today and your diploma or TOR.
- PRC licensure is optional for entrance exam reviewers.
- NBI clearance before your first review placement, which applies to every tutor without exception.
- Free hours on weekday evenings or weekends, when senior high learners are out of class.
- For home visits with a minor, readiness to teach while an adult in the household is present.
Why tutor with Eduline
These terms hold for every Eduline tutor, online or in person.
You set the schedule
Tell us the hours you can teach and we only send you placements that fit them. Nobody is assigned a session they did not agree to.
The rate is agreed before you accept
Every placement comes with its hourly rate stated up front, and you decide whether to take it. The rate follows the subject, the level and the setting of that placement, and you can ask for the current rates in your subjects when you apply.
A person on the team matches you
We read what you can teach and who you teach well, and send you learners who fit. You are not a listing in a directory waiting to be found.
No fee to apply, ever
No application fee, no training fee, no deposit. Any tutoring service that asks a tutor to pay before they can start earning is worth walking away from.
We handle the awkward conversations
Rescheduling, a request for more hours than were agreed, a learner who has stopped turning up. You teach; we deal with the rest.
Your voice shapes the work
Eduline tutors help set how placements, briefings and progress updates run. What works in your sessions feeds straight into how the next learner is served.
How the review rate is offered
Every review placement carries its hourly rate inside the offer. The review itself sets it: the tests on the learner's list, one paper or several sat weeks apart, an added paper such as UST's LEAPMed test, and whether the mocks happen at the reviewee's table at home or over a video link.
When you apply, ask the team for the current review rates, and they send them across. Each offer shows the rate beside the target tests and the learner's grade level, so you weigh the whole review before you take it on.
From application to your first reviewee
- 1
Apply with the tests you review
Introduce yourself, the exam parts you review well, which grade levels you take, and the hours in the week you are free.
- 2
Send your ID and diploma or TOR
Your ID, TOR or diploma, and PRC card if licensed go in first; the NBI clearance arrives before review sessions begin.
- 3
Walk the team through a sample plan
A call about the subtests and levels you want to review, so the team knows where your strengths sit.
- 4
Take your first reviewee
An offer names the target exam, the learner's grade, the session times and the hourly rate, matched by a person to what you review well, and you decide whether to take it. When a reviewee's test dates or your own week change, a re-match is yours whenever you request it, and a learner who wants a different reviewer gets one free of charge, any time they ask.
What entrance exam review applicants ask
Which months are busiest for a college entrance exam reviewer?
Review demand follows the permits learners hold. It builds through June and July before the UPCAT, then runs from August into February as the private university tests come in turn. The heaviest stretch for any one learner is when two sittings fall close together, and the plan then gives each paper its own days of the week.
Why do some learners start UPCAT review while still in Grade 11?
UP opens the UPCAT to Grade 11 learners who will finish Grade 12 the following year, so the test falls at the very start of Grade 12. Review therefore begins during Grade 11, and the tutor plans a full year of subtest work before the August test dates.
Do Grade 11 grades matter in an entrance review plan?
They count directly for UP. Its admission score combines the UPCAT result with final grades from Grades 8 to 11, and under DepEd's transmutation rule for SY 2026-2027 an initial grade of 70 to 71.17 becomes a passing 75. A reviewer keeps school grades in view alongside the test plan.
Who may apply for this role, and where do applicants abroad go?
This role is for tutors living in the Philippines who review learners at home visits or online. A tutor living in another country applies to the online-only entrance exam review role instead, which takes applicants from the network countries.
Are all my reviewees Grade 12 students?
Graduates on a gap year review too. UP accepts senior high graduates who have taken no college courses, and allows each person a single UPCAT, so a graduate gets one careful attempt. De La Salle accepts earlier graduates with no college course and PEPT or ALS passers certified eligible for the DCAT.
Can I use review books or mock tests sold online for the USTET?
UST stated on 21 September 2026 that mock tests and review materials sold online for USTET AY 2027-2028 are not its publications. A reviewer builds practice sets around the four parts UST names and points the learner to UST's own announcements.
Do I teach the old strands or the Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum?
Both, this year. AY 2027-2028 applicants finish Grade 12 on the 2016 curriculum with its old strands, such as STEM. Today's Grade 11 students, who apply next cycle, are the first full cohort on the Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum.
What does the last week before a test hold?
One full timed paper at the real start hour, a check of the permit, and a packed bag with pencils and ID. UST fixes each USTET date from when the application was completed and does not move it, so the plan is sized once the permit shows the date.
