Online coding tutor jobs Philippines: teach code on a shared screen
Online coding tutor jobs, Philippines: part-time video-call teaching for Eduline, open to tutors living in the Philippines or a network country such as Singapore, India or the UAE. You take learners from Scratch blocks through Python and Java, the language of a Grade 11 TechPro Computer Programming elective. Applying costs nothing, and a person reads every application.
One shared screen, one learner, one program at a time
Each session is a video call where the code sits on a single shared screen. The learner shares their editor and you request remote control, so you can point at a missing bracket or type a short fix while they watch, then hand control back. Remote control runs only while someone is sharing, so the first minute of a lesson goes to getting the learner's window up. For the rest of the hour the learner types, runs and explains, and you take the keyboard only to show a step once.
For learners aged about 7 to 16, coding has no report-card subject of its own in DepEd schools, so a pupil arrives because they chose it, often with a game or a story they want to build. Younger ones start in Scratch, where blocks drag and snap together and a tablet copes well. Typed Python or JavaScript begins once the learner's reading and typing can carry it, and those two skills set the pace more than age does. With a young pupil the camera stays on their face, the project stays on the shared screen, and every session ends with something that runs.
Senior high learners bring school work. Under the Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum, Grade 11 students on the TechPro track can take electives from the ICT Support and Computer Programming Technologies cluster, among them Computer Programming in Java, in .NET Technology and in Oracle Database. College students in computing degrees, whose standards CHED set in CMO No. 25, s. 2015, and working adults heading into application development or QA ask for Python, Git and a first portfolio project.
Some high school learners aim at NOI.PH, the National Olympiad in Informatics Philippines, an annual programming contest whose top scorers join the training pool for the International Olympiad in Informatics. Its 2026 rules set three rounds, with the top 40 of the eliminations moving on and only C++ and Python 3 allowed after the first round; eliminations fell in February 2025 and March 2026. Each contestant has a coach from their own school, and your sessions add IOI-syllabus problems and timed practice. The contest bans generative AI, so the learner types every practice solution.
Homework travels as a link to the project, notebook or repository. Before the next call you open it and write short comments in the code itself, beside the lines that need another look, so the learner reads your notes before the session starts. Because Git records every change, you can see what the learner altered since last week, compare two versions, and restore a file that broke. The next lesson starts from that history, so time on the call goes to the part the learner got stuck on.
With a child learner, the Scratch, Replit or Google accounts the lessons use belong to the learner and are set up by the learner or by the person who registered them. You work inside what they share on screen, never ask for a password, and keep your own accounts for your demos.
Which editor suits which learner
Your own laptop mostly carries the video call and the shared screen, and the learner's may be an older machine, so choose the editor by the learner's stage and let the browser or a cloud machine run the code.
- Scratch for first programs
Younger pupils drag and snap blocks with no syntax to type, online or offline, and on a tablet since version 3.0.
- Replit for first typed code
First typed Python or JavaScript, in a browser or on a phone, with both of you editing one file.
- Google Colab for notebooks
Python for senior high, college and adult learners; the code runs on a cloud machine under the learner's own account.
- vscode.dev for repositories
Web pages and Java files kept on GitHub, opened with nothing to install. It has no terminal or debugger, so plan around that.
- Git for portfolios
Career shifters and TechPro students recording every change, comparing versions and restoring a broken file.
- GitHub Pages for a first live site
Free static hosting from a public repository, so a finished HTML and CSS project gets a real web address the learner can send to anyone.
From block projects to a first portfolio
These are the kinds of coding learners book online, from a young pupil with a game idea to an adult changing careers.
- Block coding animations
Scratch projects built over screen share, one sprite and one event block at a time, finished before the call ends.
- HTML and CSS pages
A live page in a browser editor where the learner changes a selector and both of you see the result at once.
- Python notebooks
Colab cells run remotely, so a slow laptop still handles loops, lists and small data sets.
- Java, .NET and Oracle Database
Grade 11 TechPro elective work, traced line by line while the learner shares their own editor.
- Git and a first portfolio
Commits, comparing versions and publishing a repository for adults preparing to apply for QA or development roles.
What the coding role asks of you
Skill with code comes first, then the desk setup that carries a screen share for an hour.
- Working command of Scratch and at least one typed language, Python or JavaScript. Java, .NET, Oracle Database or C++ widens the learners you can take.
- Comfort reading code someone else wrote, on their screen, and finding the error with a question first.
- Basic Git: commits, comparing versions, restoring a file and sharing a repository link.
- A computer with a webcam, a headset and an up-to-date browser, able to run the call and a browser editor side by side without stalling.
- A fixed broadband line that holds video and a screen share for a full hour, with mobile data as backup.
- Lesson hours that fit Philippine Standard Time (UTC+8), the clock learners book on.
- A valid government ID, and a diploma or TOR in any field. A PRC license is optional for coding.
- NBI clearance before your first coding learner, if you live in the Philippines.
- Clear spoken English; Filipino helps with younger pupils in the Philippines.
Why tutor with Eduline
These terms hold for every Eduline tutor, online or in person.
You set the schedule
Tell us the hours you can teach and we only send you placements that fit them. Nobody is assigned a session they did not agree to.
The rate is agreed before you accept
Every placement comes with its hourly rate stated up front, and you decide whether to take it. The rate follows the subject, the level and the setting of that placement, and you can ask for the current rates in your subjects when you apply.
A person on the team matches you
We read what you can teach and who you teach well, and send you learners who fit. You are not a listing in a directory waiting to be found.
No fee to apply, ever
No application fee, no training fee, no deposit. Any tutoring service that asks a tutor to pay before they can start earning is worth walking away from.
We handle the awkward conversations
Rescheduling, a request for more hours than were agreed, a learner who has stopped turning up. You teach; we deal with the rest.
Your voice shapes the work
Eduline tutors help set how placements, briefings and progress updates run. What works in your sessions feeds straight into how the next learner is served.
What shapes the rate on a coding offer
Every online coding offer prints its hourly rate before you say yes, and the rate follows the work the learner brings to the call. A high school contestant drilling olympiad tasks in C++ or Python 3 before the NOI.PH eliminations needs a tutor who can explain why a solution runs too slowly. A career shifter needs a first repository, steady commits and one finished project to talk an interviewer through. Those are two different placements, and each offer names the language, the level and the weekly schedule beside its rate.
When you apply, ask what coding offers pay for the learners you want: Scratch projects for young pupils, Java or .NET for a Grade 11 TechPro elective, contest training, or Python and Git for an adult building a portfolio. Accepting an offer is your decision each time.
Applying, then your opening coding call
- 1
Tell us the languages you code in
Introduce yourself, list the languages and editors you teach, the levels you cover from young pupils to adults, your country and your free hours in Philippine time.
- 2
Send ID and qualifications
Your government ID and TOR or diploma, plus a PRC card if you happen to hold one. Tutors living in the Philippines add NBI clearance before the first coding placement.
- 3
Walk us through code you wrote
A call, phone or video, on the languages you code in and the learners you want. Someone on the team notes your strongest languages and places you by them.
- 4
Accept or pass on a coding learner
You receive one learner's level, subject, session schedule and hourly rate, and whether you take it is up to you. Once you teach, ask for a re-match whenever a placement stops fitting your hours.
What online coding applicants ask us
Can I apply from Singapore, Dubai or India?
Yes. Coding tutors may apply from any of nine network countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and India in Asia, the UAE and Qatar in the Gulf, Egypt and Kenya in Africa, and the Philippines itself. Sessions run on Philippine Standard Time, so a 7 pm lesson in Manila is 7 pm in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, 4:30 pm in Kolkata and 3 pm in Dubai. NBI clearance applies when you live in the Philippines. Wherever you are, you need a line that holds a screen share for the whole session.
How do I fix a learner's code when the keyboard is on their side?
Ask for remote control while the learner shares their screen. In Zoom, the viewer picks Request Remote Control under View Options and the sharer approves the prompt, and either side can end it. Type the fix, explain it in one sentence, then give control back so the learner repeats it from scratch.
What if the learner's school-issued laptop blocks remote control?
Zoom's remote control runs through its desktop app on Windows, macOS or Linux, a Mac must first give Zoom access in its Accessibility privacy settings, and an account admin can switch the feature off. A laptop the learner's school manages may lock exactly those installs and settings. Move the lesson into a shared browser editor such as Replit, where both of you type in the same file, and have the learner ask the school's IT office about the setting before the next call.
What if the stream lags while we debug?
Turn the cameras off and keep the share: Zoom puts screen sharing alone at about 50 to 75 kbps, far below a 720p video call. Ask the learner to read the error message aloud, line number first, since one missing colon stops a Python program. If the share drops, the saved project is still there for both of you.
How do I teach a learner who types slowly?
In 2024, 98.8 percent of Filipino internet users went online by cellphone and 14.7 percent by laptop, so many learners meet a physical keyboard late. Early sessions may cover saving a file, finding a folder and typing a colon without looking. Keep Scratch open for the ideas while typing catches up, and keep each typed program short enough to finish within the hour.
How do I help a career shifter build a portfolio?
Start a repository on the first day and commit after every session, so the history shows steady work. Build one project the learner cares about, in parts they finish one session at a time, and publish the link once it runs. A working program with a readable commit history gives the learner something concrete to walk an interviewer through.
